Intervention following sexual abuse within families - how did he do that to us? The application of knowledge of adult male sex offenders to intervention with children, partners/carers and families. Course overview This course is provided in response to requests from child care and health professionals who are engaged in ongoing work with children, mothers and families where there has been sexual abuse. It is designed to address the difficulties created by the fact that many abusers respond to disclosure of abuse with silence, denial or, at best, minimising the extent of the abuse. It shows how knowledge of abusers can enhance our understanding of the presentation of individual children, partners, carers and families. The course builds on the Department of Health assessment guidelines. It is relevant to child and family situations whether the offender is still present or has left but problems persist. It provides the means of structured intervention even in the most difficult situations and offers a way of applying resources in a way that is clinically and financially cost-effective. Course aims
